Regional Suicide Prevention Forum held at Wallaroo

Presented by phn Country SA and an initiative of the Australian Government, the Regional Suicide Prevention forum held at Wallaroo on 14 December was an opportunity for stakeholders, community members, organisations, associations and sporting groups, carers, GPS and service providers to identify gaps in regional suicide prevention services.

The event was organised in collaboration with SOS Copper Coast SPN and was held in response to the Country SA Primary Health Network being announced as facilitator of one of 12 new National Suicide Prevention Trial sites.

The Local Government Areas involved in the two year trial include Yorke Peninsula, Copper Coast, Pt Augusta, Whyalla, Port Pirie and Port Lincoln, and the aim is to bring significant resources, activity and funding to areas of need in regional SA.

For the Country SA PHN region, target groups have been selected based on need and local data around suicide rates and attempts.

The three targets include:

  • Youth (12-24 years)
  • Adult Males (25-45 years)
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

In February 2018, SOS Copper Coast Suicide Prevention Network was pleased to receive a small grant ($10,000) under the program, which was used to develop a new group website.
