Mayor to launch SOS Copper Coast website at Field Days

Mayor of Copper Coast Council Roslyn Talbot will formally launch a new website developed by the SOS Copper Coast Suicide Prevention Network at the 2019 Yorke Peninsula Field Days at Paskeville, on Wednesday 25th September.

The launch will take place at the SOS Copper Coast Suicide Prevention Network stand in the Cyclone Pavilion, at 2 pm, and all are welcome to attend.

“I am pleased to accept the invitation to launch the local SOS website, which promotes and supports suicide prevention activities and directs the community to available local mental health services”, said Mayor Talbot.

“With mental health issues being so widespread in the population, it is extremely important to raise awareness, and support those around you who are suffering from a mental health problem.

“It is also incredibly important to seek help if you feel you are suffering from any form of mental illness or mental health problem, and the website is great resource to use.

“The SOS Copper Coast Suicide Prevention Network is another example of volunteers in our community working hard for the benefit of others.

“This website is a great initiative and a tool to assist not only those who are suffering with mental health issues, but also friends and families who are looking for advice on how to help their loved ones. “

The website – soscoppercoast.com.au – lists all available help lines and services and features real time technology so it doesn’t matter what time of the day or night support is being sought, users can trust the information is accurate and there is help a phone call away.

The site is an initiative of the SOS Copper Coast Suicide Prevention Network based in Kadina, and was developed with funding by CountrySA PHN.

“We very much appreciate the support of Mayor Talbot and the Copper Coast Council in assisting us get the word out about the website and available local services,” said SOS Copper Coast Suicide Prevention Network Chair David Boots.

“Everyone is welcome at the launch on Wednesday, or to call in at any time over the three days for a chat and to pick up a free website promo fridge magnet or one of our many information booklets and flyers.

“Tragically, there were 3,128 deaths by suicide in Australia in 2017, up from 2,866 the year before. It is now the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 44.

“We all need to work together to tackle this growing major health issue”, Mr Boots said.
